Pour être un superviseur efficace, les professionnels doivent développer des compétences distinctes de celles requises pour la pratique du counseling ou de la psychothérapie. Le simple fait d’être un conseiller ou un psychothérapeute compétent ne signifie pas nécessairement que l’on sera un superviseur efficace. Étant donné que les superviseurs acceptent la responsabilité éthique et légale du travail du supervisé auprès des clients, un fardeau supplémentaire de responsabilité pèse sur le conseiller ou le psychothérapeute qui assume un rôle de supervision. Un obstacle pour les professionnels qui souhaitent devenir des superviseurs efficaces est le manque de matériel disponible pour former les superviseurs en dehors des milieux universitaires. Cadre national de compétences en supervision clinique

Le cadre établit une compréhension collective de ce qui constitue une supervision clinique qualifiée et compétente au Canada. Il jette les bases d’une plus grande responsabilisation et contribue à la durabilité de la supervision clinique en tant que domaine de pratique spécialisé sous l’égide de la profession de counseling et de psychothérapie.

Les superviseurs cliniques, à toutes les étapes de leur développement et à tous les niveaux d’expérience, sont invités à s’engager dans l’auto-évaluation comme moyen de réflexion personnelle et d’élaboration d’un plan de croissance professionnelle. Nous espérons que ce processus d’auto-évaluation éclairera et enrichira vos expériences de supervision clinique.
