Welcome to the Spirituality in Counselling Chapter (SinCC) webpage. We hope you’ll gain a better sense of the work we do as spiritually-informed counsellors. The chapter endeavours to offer members professional development opportunities and the ability to gather around topics that will enhance the inclusion of spirituality in their clinical practices.
Mission Statement
Our commitment is to offer a sacred space to our clients while listening to their story and to value compassion, empathy and respect to all people.
Definition
The Spirituality in Counselling Chapter is a multi-faith chapter open to individuals working from any spiritual tradition who are spiritually-minded counsellors with a special interest in responding to clients who desire to have spirituality included in the counselling process.
Chapter Award
2025/2026 Jim Robertson Spirituality in Counselling Chapter Scholarship
SinCC is currently receiving applications for our Jim Robertson Spirituality in Counselling Chapter Scholarship valued at $1,000. This scholarship is available to all students enrolled in programs that focus on the intersection of spirituality and counselling/psychotherapy. The deadline to apply is May 1, 2026. Applications are now closed, and the award recipients will be announced at the AGM.
Membership
Membership is open to any registered CCPA member who has an interest in the integration of client-led spirituality into the counselling process and resonates with the above definition.

Regional Communities of Practice
The SinCC is pleased to advise you that in-person, and some virtual, Regional Community of Practice are taking place in several provinces. Regional Communities of Practice are informal, peer-led gatherings to discuss specific aspects of spiritually-informed clinical practice, ie, sharing resources, discussion of case studies, case consultation, professional development, and peer support/self-care. Please note: this is not a supervision group.

Annual General Meeting
2026 AGM – June 11, 2026 (4:00 PM ET):
Keynote Speaker is confirmed to Dr. Rosmarin. David H. Rosmarin is an Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School, and Founder of Center for Anxiety. His clinical work and research have been featured in the New York Times, the Boston Globe, the Wall Street Journal, and Good Morning America. Following the business section, special guest speaker Dr. David Rosmarin will address “What Every Therapist Needs to Know About Spirituality, Religion and Mental Health.” Dr. Rosmarin has published over 100 manuscripts and editorials, developed several clinical protocols, including spiritual psychotherapy for inpatient, residential and intensive treatment (SPIRIT). In this presentation, he will explore how practitioners can apply a functional assessment approach to quantify aspects of spir/religious life that are clinically relevant to mental health and distress. Dr. Kristin Neff – Mindful Self-Compassion Pioneer
Kristin Neff is a pioneer in self-compassion research, conducting the first empirical studies over twenty years ago. She has been recognised as one of the most influential researchers in psychology worldwide. Kristin has written several bestselling books on self-compassion, is co-founder of the Center for Mindful Self-Compassion, and creator of the online Self-Compassion Community.

History
The Spirituality in Counselling Chapter was created in 2006. Its goals are:
- To provide an opportunity for Chapter members to meet and discuss pertinent issues related to spirituality in counselling.
- To provide a forum for ongoing information exchange and professional development.
- To work collaboratively as Chapter and Executive members and with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association for the greater good of mutually sought aims and objectives.
- To provide an opportunity for the Chapter members to collaborate with faith groups in open dialogue for the purpose of enhanced client care.
