Professional Member – Regular

Individuals who hold a university degree, post-baccalaureate education, university or college diploma in counselling or a related field, or equivalent experience and training that aligns with the professional standards and ethics of CCPA as assessed by the Registrar.

Eligible for Insurance: Yes, holding our professional membership and also registered with a Provincial Regulatory Body; College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, Ordre des conseillers et conseilleres d’orientation du Quebec, Ordre des psychologues du Quebec, Ordre des sexologues du Québec, Ordre des psychoéducateurs et psychoéducatrices du Québec, Ordre des travailleurs sociaux et des thérapeutes conjugaux et familiaux du Québec, Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists, College of Counselling Therapists of New Brunswick.

Professional Member – Student

To be eligible for a reduced fee as a student, individuals must be presently enrolled in an undergraduate, post-baccalaureate certificate or diploma program, masters degree or doctoral program in counselling or a related field at a governmentally recognized degree granting institution or its equivalent for non-Canadian universities.

Eligible for Insurance: Yes (for Masters & PhD practicums only)

Professional Member – Retired

Individual must have been a Voting Member of CCPA for a minimum of one year. Members who declare themselves as retired may continue to claim CCC designation, but they may not engage in any counselling practice.

Voting Rights: Yes

Eligible for Insurance: Free coverage, provided they had it as certified members for one year prior to their retirement.

Professional Certified Member

Individuals who hold the designation of Canadian Certified Counsellor (“CCC”) and hold a university degree at the graduate level or higher that aligns with the professional standards and ethics of CCPA as assessed by the Registrar. Please note that you must be a professional member of CCPA in order to apply for certification.

Annual Fee: $260 ($185 Membership + $75 Certification fees)  There is an initial administration fee of $95 when the application for certification is first received.

Eligible for Insurance: Yes

Professional Certified Member – Student

Individuals who hold the designation of Canadian Certified Counsellor (“CCC”)  and who are presently enrolled in a post-masters program in counselling or a related field at a at a governmentally recognized degree granting institution or its equivalent for non-Canadian universities.  Please note that you must be a professional member of CCPA in order to apply for certification.

Annual Fee: $160 ($85 Membership + $75 Certification fees)  There is an initial administration fee of $95 when the application for certification is first received.

Professional Member – Student Representative

Individuals must be presently enrolled in a masters program or higher in counselling or a related field at a governmentally recognized degree granting institution.  Applications must include a POS form and student rep application & agreement forms.  Applications are reviewed by our provincial directors. Guest Member – Individual or Association

Individuals who have paid the CCPA Association Membership fee and do not qualify for membership as a Voting Member and have an interest in the well-being, role and function of CCPA OR any agency or organization not necessarily actively involved in counselling or a related field, but having an interest in the well-being, role and function of CCPA.

  1. For purposes of membership, the courses and programs, degrees, diplomas and certificates offered by various colleges and universities are subject to the approval of CCPA.
  2. From time to time, CCPA may award Honorary Lifetime Memberships to members who have made a considerable contribution to the aims and objectives of the Association.
  3. Grandfather clause: All individuals who, at the time of the changes (May 2000), had full member status, will continue with the association under the full membership status. They can also maintain their Insurance coverage providing they had it before the change in criteria. Only new members will have to comply with the new membership/insurance criteria.
  4. Grandparent clause: All individuals who have, at the time of this change (May 2003), associate membership status will continue with the association under the Professional Membership status.
  5. Guest Members are assessed by the Registrar or Executive Committee on a case-by-case basis in accordance with policies established by the Board of Directors from time to time.
