Clinical supervision is a distinct competence that serves as the cornerstone of professional training of counsellors/psychotherapists

Supervision is a distinct professional practice employing a collaborative relationship that has both facilitative and evaluative components, that extends over time, which has the goals of enhancing the professional competence and science-informed practice of the supervisee, monitoring the quality of services provided, protecting the public, and providing a gatekeeping function for entry into the profession. (Board of Educational Affairs Task Force on Supervision, 2014).

Clinical supervision plays a vital role throughout a counsellor/psychotherapist’s career, from initial training to seasoned practice, fostering skill development, enhancing knowledge, and improving client outcomes.

Clinical supervision is an evolving specialty, and continuous professional development is required to advance the quality and effectiveness of supervision. The Canadian Clinical Supervisor (CCS) certification recognizes the complex practice of supervision and how it requires an additional knowledge base, competencies, and capacities from those acquired in one’s original professional training. CCPA contends that all supervisors need a period of formal training and development followed by continuing personal and professional development as a supervisor.

The CCS certification evaluation fee is $195.00. The annual renewal fee is $45.00. The total annual fee to maintain CCC is $280.00 per year that includes the $195.00 membership fee and a $85.00 certification fee.
