1. Dr. R. Vance Peavy Travel Bursary – Career Counsellors Chapter

Purpose: To offer a bursary toward attending the following national conferences:

  • CCPA National Annual Conference
  • CCPA Research Conference (when it is held)
  • CANNEXUS

Amount: $300

Criteria of eligibility:

  1. Must be a full-time student in graduate or other post-secondary programs in counselling, career counselling, or career development, and have research interests in career development.
  2. Preference will be given to students who have submitted a proposal to present at one of the above conferences. Preference will also be given to CCPA members.

Applications Procedures:

  • Submit proof of full-time status (if you are not already a registered Student Member of the CCPA)
  • A completed copy of the CCPA Award Nomination Form (you do not need a nominating
    signature)
  • A current CV
  • A one page covering letter addressing the following points:
    – Program or degree description
    – Year of studies
    – Current research/practice interests
    – Title, date, and description of conference presentation (if applicable, or a statement of what you hope to gain by attending conference if not presenting)

Applications will be ranked according to the above criteria, and a decision will be made by the Chapter Executive by the second Friday in January. All applicants will be informed of the decision.

The winner will be expected to provide a summary of their presentation for inclusion in the Chapter blog, and/or to present their paper at the annual Career Counsellors Chapter meeting, typically held during the CCPA Annual Conference.

2.Doctoral Student Dissemination Award – Counsellor Educators and Supervisors Chapter

Purpose: The Counsellor Educators and Supervisors (CES) Chapter wishes to encourage those who are CCPA members and who are doctoral students to consider a career as a counsellor educator. The CES Chapter Dissemination Award for Doctoral Students is intended to assist these members achieve this goal by providing funding to assist students present their work at the CCPA annual conference.

Amount: The award is valued at $500. The award is presented to the winning applicant at the annual meeting of the Counsellor Educators and Supervisors Chapter, which is held at the CCPA conference. The award winner is encouraged to present an overview of their award-winning session at the annual meeting.

Criteria of eligibility:

Applicants must be

  • CCPA members in good standing,
  • a current doctoral student at an accredited university or a recent graduate of a doctoral program (i.e., no more than 12 months from the date of the conference), and
  • the first author on a session that has been accepted for presentation at the CCPA annual conference. The session may be in any format accepted by the conference (e.g., Education Session, Poster Session, Roundtable Session)

Applicants do not need to be members of the Counsellor Educators and Supervisors chapter. The work that the applicant will be presenting at the conference does not need to be their dissertation research.

Application Procedures:

Applicants must submit the following documents:

  1. A letter of acceptance from CCPA, confirming that the applicant has been accepted to present a
    session at the CCPA annual conference
  2. A 250-word abstract of the session they will be presenting
  3. A short letter (max. 1 page) outlining (a) the applicant’s career goals and the relevance of their
    session to the counselling profession in Canada
  4. A current curriculum vitae
  5. A letter from a counsellor educator, confirming the applicant’s status as a current or recently
    graduated doctoral student and recommending the applicant for this award

Deadline: March 16

 

3. Bev Abbey Service Award – BC Chapter

Purpose: To recognize and remember the late Bev Abbey, and to honour her generosity, selflessness, and many contributions to CCPA. The Bev Abbey Service Award is given annually to a BC graduate student in counselling psychology.

Amount: $200 plus a year’s membership to the CCPA and the BC Chapter (valued at $105).

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for the award, the student must:

  • be registered (not “on leave”) in a counselling psychology graduate program in British Columbia,
  • be a member of both CCPA and the BC Chapter of the CCPA, and
  • have made a significant contribution to the counselling profession in BC in
    the year prior to his/her application, in a community, university, practicum or other relevant setting. Examples of such contributions include active volunteer involvement or representation in counselling related initiatives, events, projects or programs.

Application Procedures:

  1. submit a completed and signed Application form,
  2. one single-spaced, typewritten page (using 1.5” margins and a 12-point
    font) outlining your contribution to the counselling profession in the
    previous year, and
  3. one Referee form and letter of reference*

*Your referee must be someone with direct knowledge of your contributions and be able to evaluate your application for the Bev Abbey Service Award. The Referee form and letter of reference must be sent directly from the referee to the chapter.
Candidates will be evaluated according to the eligibility criteria stated above and must be recommended by all BCCCPA Board members. Board members reserve the right to add additional criteria for this Award in order to choose the most suitable candidate.

Deadline: January 31st.

 

4. Travel Award for Student Members – Social Justice Chapter

Purpose: Part of the mission of the Social Justice Chapter is to entice counsellors to give back. We are pleased to offer our Annual Travel Award for students who are currently doing work in social justice and who would like to attend the CCPA Annual Conference.

Amount: $350

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Be a full- or part-time student enrolled in a counselling/psychotherapy or counselling related graduate-level program.
  • Be a student member of the CCPA.

To apply:

  1. Submit your up-to-date CV showing your social justice involvement.
  2. In 250 words or less, tell us about yourself:
    – provide a description of your social justice involvement through work or volunteerism. (If chosen, your write up will be included in our next newsletter).
    – let us know what specifically draws you to—and what you hope to get out of attending—the CCPA Conference in the context of social justice.

If selected for the award, you will be required to attend the CCPA Social Justice
Chapter’s Annual General Meeting, held during the conference, to receive the award. It is also an opportunity for chapter members to meet you and hear briefly about your social justice involvement.

Deadline: Please download and complete the CCPA Awards Application Form found on the CCPA website and use the contact information on the form return the form to the CCPA head office, along with your CV and write-up, by January 17.

 

5. School Counselling Award – School Counsellors Chapter

Purpose: To recognize the work of exceptional School Counsellors and acknowledge their personal and professional commitment to the profession.

Amount: $300 honorarium + Plaque

Criteria of Eligibility:

1. The nominee must be:

  • A CCPA member in good standing
  • A member of the CCPA’s School Counsellors Chapter (in good standing)
  • Currently employed as a school counsellor in an elementary or secondary school system, or a retiree.

2. The following criteria will be considered when choosing a recipient of the CCPA School Counselling Award.
The recipient will have demonstrated:

  • A commitment to ‘life‐long learning’ and evolution of professional practice
  • Exceptional leadership service within their school, community, province, and / or on a national level
  • Strengths in counselling/ psychotherapy competency, ethical decision‐making, and intervention skills
  • Advocacy for school counselling within the school and community

Application Procedures:

1. Any two (2) members of CCPA (other than the nominee) must sign the application form.
2. Four (4) copies of information and documentation (e.g. professional portfolio or curriculum vitae) must be provided to substantiate the eligibility criteria stated above.

Assessment Guidelines:
A committee comprised of three CCPA members, with the committee constructed as per CCPA procedures for all National Awards.

Deadline: December 1.

 

6. Student Scholarship – Indigenous Circle Chapter

Purpose: Two scholarship awards are presented to encourage Indigenous students.

Amount: $500.00 each

Eligibility criteria:

  • You must be of Indigenous ancestry.
  • You are a student (Master’s or Doctoral) in an AUCC-member institution’s counselling, psychotherapy or a counselling-related graduate level degree program full-time or parttime and are engaged in a research project or in writing your thesis or dissertation on the subject of indigenous counselling/therapy. You must be enrolled continuously as a full- or
    part-time student throughout the tenure of the award.
    – Students requesting funding for an additional research project must   have submitted their one-page “Statement of Accomplishments Report” for the previously funded research project prior to being eligible for funding for his/her next project.
  • You must have a B average or higher in your current Master’s or Doctoral program.
  • You require financial assistance to pursue your counselling, psychotherapy or counselling related education and research.

The decision of the Indigenous Circle Awards Committee is final. The Indigenous Circle reserves the right to not award any scholarship in any given year.
Please send your completed application along with your proof of Indigenous ancestry, proof of program acceptance, a description of your research concept, and most recent transcripts to the CCPA National Office.

7. Private Practitioner Award for Excellence – Private Practitioner’s Chapter

Purpose: The Private Practitioner Award has been established to meet the following objectives:

  1. To promote the vital role played by Private Practitioners in the Canadian Counselling and psychotherapy field by our Chapter Members.
  2. To recognize a Chapter Member counsellor/psychotherapist for demonstrated commitment to excellence and high professional integrity.
  3. To heighten awareness of the Private Practitioner Chapter and its commitment to heighten awareness of the best practices of its members.
  4. To promote and inform the National and local community of this prestigious award bestowed on a deserving private practitioner of the chapter.

Amount: $500 + plaque

This annual award will be sponsored by the Private Practitioners Chapter and will be presented at the CCPA Annual Conference each year.

Eligibility Criteria:

Any professional member of the Private Practitioner Chapter in good standing is eligible to be nominated. Nomination of a chapter member may be submitted by another chapter member or non- member due to the unique work environments of Private Practitioners.

Application Procedures:

Candidates wishing to apply for this award must submit the following documents:

  1. A letter from a counsellor/psychotherapist or educator
  2. 150 word essay as to why s/he is nominated for the award

Evaluation Criteria:

Applications will be evaluated on their overall merit, by the Chapter’s Awards Committee.

9. Student Bursary – Spirituality in Counselling Chapter

Purpose: To recognize the work of students in the field of pastoral or spiritual counselling and acknowledge their personal and professional commitment to the profession of Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Amount: $500

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. The applicant must be:
  • A Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association member in good standing
  • A member of the Spirituality in Counselling Chapter in good standing
  • Currently enrolled or expecting to be enrolled by September in a Counselling and Psychotherapy program with a focus on pastoral or spiritual counselling (2 years of length or greater)
  • Must be a Canadian resident and attend a school in Canada.
  1. The following criteria will be considered when choosing a recipient of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association, Spirituality in Counselling Chapter Bursary:

The recipient will have demonstrated:

  • GPA of 3.0 or higher;
  • Exceptional leadership service within their school and/or community in the area of Spiritual Care;
  • Financial need for the current or upcoming school year;
  • Submit an answer to the essay question:
    – “Why do you feel called to pursue studies in spiritual counselling in the
    Counselling and Psychotherapy profession?” (250 words)
  • One copy of the following information and documentation must be provided to substantiate the eligibility criteria stated above:
    – Most recent transcript
    – Income and expense Statement
    – School/community service reference letter
    – Answer to the essay question (250 words)
