Earlier this week Jian Ghomeshi of CBC said,\u00a0 \u201cSeptember must we dread you?\u201d \u00a0An excellent question!\u00a0 September can often be like a wild fairground ride.\u00a0 You know the one where you are strapped into a chair that slowly, slowly climbs up\u2026.and then WHAM drops you back down to the ground? Yeah \u2013 that\u2019s how September often feels!\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

My summer was idyllic in many ways and I wanted to be more intentional and planful about September this year. As we transition into the last quarter of the year, which many people consider to be the \u201creal\u201d new year, it seemed like a good time to take a moment and reflect on my intentions for the rest of the year.\u00a0 To pause and think about what this year has been like thus far and to get clear on how I want to finish 2013.<\/p>\n

I liked the questions that were posed and found myself thinking about ways to use them with clients. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s a sampling of the questions\u2026<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

How have you treated yourself this year?<\/p>\n

What word was your travelling companion this year?<\/p>\n

Where have the surprises been?\u00a0 The highs and lows?<\/p>\n

What opportunities have come your way?<\/p>\n

Count the blessings you\u2019ve had to be grateful for this year.<\/p>\n

What yearnings have you developed?\u00a0 What do you want to let go of?<\/p>\n

How do you intend to transition into the new season?\u00a0<\/p>\n

How would you like your year to end?<\/p>\n

Writing out the answers to these questions and more has certainly eased my transition into September.<\/p>\n

One thing\u2019s for sure \u2013 it started me thinking about more ways to incorporate blogs and exercises such as these into my counselling whether in-person or online.<\/p>\n
