Many Career Professionals intuitively facilitate clients toward this outcome, yet few if any consistent and widely embraced methods exist to guide clients toward such an authentic and effective statement.<\/p>\n<p>Increasingly, CareerCycles Associates and trainees have been fine tuning a narrative method of practice to distil <em>what matters <\/em>from <em>what happened<\/em> to guide clients toward the creation of their unique <em>Career Statement<\/em>. Over the past five years, 120 Career Professionals across Canada and the U.S. have been trained in the CareerCycles narrative method of practice. In the same time, more than 2000 clients have benefited from creating their <em>Career Statement<\/em>, with consistently excellent results and feedback.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/past-present-future.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1610\" title=\"past-present-future\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/past-present-future-300x156.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"156\" \/><\/a>What is a <em>Career Statement<\/em>? <\/strong>It<strong> <\/strong>is a concise, client-generated and empowering document that is used as a compass to direct intentional career exploration. Its present- and future-orientation makes it ideal to guide change and forward movement. This is in direct contrast with the backward-looking resume or CV which in many cases can limit change and growth.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>How is a <em>Career Statement <\/em>generated?<\/strong> It is the output of a &#8216;career and life clarification process&#8217; consisting of one to three individual sessions using the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/careercycles.com\/our-story\/model-framework\" target=\"_blank\">CareerCycles framework<\/a> and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/careercycles.com\/for-helping-professionals\/training-licensing-and-associateship\" target=\"_blank\">narrative method of practice<\/a>. Collaboratively, client and Career Professional use the <em>Career Sketch<\/em>, another working document, to gather and organize what matters from clients\u2019 career and life stories. The client then drafts their <em>Career Statement<\/em> by selecting the most important entries from the elements that comprise the <em>Career Sketch<\/em>. Groups may experience the <em>Who You Are MATTERS!<\/em> career and life clarification game, at the end of which participants draft their individual <em>Career Statement<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>What are the elements of a <em>Career Statement<\/em>? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here are the six elements of a private <em>Career Statement<\/em>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Desires: Here\u2019s what I want and what\u2019s important to me\u2026 <strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Strengths: Here are the skills and knowledge I want to do or use\u2026<\/li>\n<li>Personal qualities: Here\u2019s the kind of person I am\u2026<\/li>\n<li>Assets: Here\u2019s what I bring with me\u2026<\/li>\n<li>Other People: People who have influenced or continue to influence my career &amp; life choices\u2026<\/li>\n<li>Possibilities: These are the possibilities I\u2019m most curious about\u2026<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/careercycles.com\/amazing-team\/mark-franklin\" target=\"_blank\">Click here to view the author\u2019s Career Statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>How do the private and public versions of <em>Career Statement<\/em> differ? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Career Statement:public version<\/em> is appropriate for sharing with others during career exploration. Clients generate a public version from their private <em>Career Statement<\/em>. Personal content, such as a desire to have a child, is removed. And the sequence of the elements, as shown below, is optimized for career conversations and communication. <em>Career Statement:public version <\/em>is also designed to be shared and viewed online, in landscape orientation, and making use of colour, links, and infographic elements.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Signature strengths \u2013 provide three substantiated strengths<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Future possibilities I\u2019m curious about<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Timeline \u2013 linked and clickable<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Desires<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Strengths <\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Personal qualities <\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Other people and life roles<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Assets \u2013 a:education, b:experiences, c:demonstrated interests, d:additional skills<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/careercycles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/CareerStatement-MarkFranklin-tabular.pdf\">Click here to view the author\u2019s\u00a0 multi-page infographic version<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/careercycles.com\/amazing-team\/pat-parisi\" target=\"_blank\">Click here to view Career Statement:Public Version of one of our Associates<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Career Statement, <\/em><\/strong><strong>The Revolution <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the turbulent 21<sup>st<\/sup> century, the career landscape is more changeable than ever, and more than ever, individuals need internal clarity and an effective and easy way to communicate that clarity with others. Beyond possessing intellectual capital (what we know), and social capital (who we know), in order to navigate the contemporary career landscape we also need to develop increased levels of what <a href=\"http:\/\/ebookstore.sony.com\/author\/fred-luthans_76875\">Fred Luthans<\/a> calls psychological capital (knowing who we are). As Career Professionals, we need better tools, better outcomes measures, and better and more consistent methods to communicate what we do.\u00a0 A <em>Career Statement<\/em> is one component of an evolving suite of game-changing tools.<\/p>\n<p>The vision at CareerCycles is to enrich the career wellbeing of humanity.
