RECONNAISSANCE DE TERRITOIRE

Le congrès se tient sur le territoire traditionnel Mi’kma’ki, le territoire ancestral et non cédé du peuple Mi’kmaq, qui est reconnu comme le gardien passé, présent et futur de cette terre.

Les « traités de paix et d’amitié » que les Premières nations Mi’kmaq Welastekwiyik (Maliseet) et les Passamaquoddy ont signés pour la première fois avec la Couronne britannique en 1725.

Ces traités n’ont pas cédé les terres et les ressources, mais ont reconnu les titres des Mi’kmaq et établi les règles d’une relation continue entre les nations.
