George Dunne vit et travaille à Prince George, en Colombie-Britannique.
Je travaille au département de counseling du College of New Caledonia, auprès d'étudiants handicapés. Depuis plus de dix ans, j'exerce la profession en pratique privée, principalement à titre de consultant. Mon travail d'expertise-conseil porte principalement sur la communication en milieu de travail, le débreffage de groupe et le counseling individuel. Je suis à l'aise de recourir aux stratégies de counseling inspirées d'une approche Rogerienne, cognitive, pastorale et analytique.
Ma bonne étoile m'a permis de travailler dans trois provinces à titre de conseiller et je suis fier d'être membre de la B.C. Association of Clinical Counsellors et de l'Association canadienne de counseling et de psychothérapie.
J'ai bien hâte de pouvoir discuter divers sujets et peut-être d'étudier certaines modifications relatives à la démarche d'aide, aussi bien à l'échelle provinciale que nationale.

Résumé
La province dispose d’un nouveau ministre de la Santé. Le plan décennal sur la santé mentale et les toxicomanies sera mis en place. Le Directeur général (DG) de la British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC) rapporte que le Ministre travaille activement au dossier de l’initiative de réglementation en C.-B. et prévoit faire des recommandations cet automne; le Président et le DG de la BCACC sont tous deux ravis du cheminement vers une réglementation de la profession de conseiller en Colombie-Britannique. Je suis fier d’annoncer que le Coordonnateur des adhésions à l’ACCP m’a transmis une mise à jour indiquant que nous comptons 976 membres en C.-B. et au Yukon.

Attended CCPA Board orientation and meeting, Ottawa, Ontario, prior to CCPA National Conference, May 2011.
Attended B.C. Chapter meeting in Ottawa, Ontario, prior to the CCPA National Conference, May 2011.
Completed personal biography and a brief over view of my practice as the Director of British Columbia and Yukon; distributed by CCPA nationally.
Participated in four CCPA Board meetings by teleconference.
Provided feedback to the Certification Committee regarding counselling by telephone and client contact hours for certification.
Participated in a CCPA Ethics committee teleconference with Glenn Sheppard.
Participated in a teleconference, led by the President – Elect and fellow CCPA directors from Manitoba and Alberta. Our plan is to develop strategies to strengthen the existing network for counsellors working in remote and northern communities.
As a member of the CCPA Ethics committee, provided input and group consultation by way of email commenting on an increasing number of requests.
Assisted one potential member with the application process for certification with CCPA.
In collaboration with fellow CCPA Directors from Manitoba and Alberta, developed a standard list of questions for reply from northern or remote members. The member’s responses will assist us with networking strategies for northern counsellors. My office sent out ninety emails for reply by members from northern B.C. and Yukon.
Communicated with Executive Director of BCACC; continuing and maintaining open communication between BCACC and CCPA.
Liaised with the B.C. Chapter and I will continue to be connected by Moodle.
Contributions and Celebrations
Reviewed application and documentation; selected CCPA student representative for Gonzaga University.
Concerns and Challenges
B.C. and the Yukon’s geographic areas are vast; it is often a challenge connecting with members out of the Prince George area. I will continue to explore methods by way of technology.
Coming Attractions
Met with Clinical Supervisor, UNBC Community Care Centre; will facilitate an information session introducing CCPA to graduate students.
I have communicated with the faculty at UNBC, will facilitate an information session introducing CCPA for M.Ed. (Counselling) students.
On November 4, 2011 a teleconference is planned with Directors from Alberta and Manitoba; we will review our findings from the northern members and present recommendations to the CCPA Board members.
I hope to learn more about the practice of counselling services in the Yukon in the New Year, by way of a teleconference with CCPA members.
