PWG Update - July 2009
Counsellor Labour Mobility Update of Project Working Group Meeting June 27 and 28, 2009
On June 27 and 28, 2009, the Project Working Group for Counsellor Labour Mobility (Project Working Group) met in Ottawa to begin the next phase of their work on the collection and dissemination of information related to counsellor mobility in Canada. The June meeting was focused on preparations for a National Symposium on Counsellor Labour Mobility to be held in Ottawa on November 26 and 27, 2009.
The Project Working Group held extensive discussions over two days to ensure that the goals of this HRSDC project are met in a timely and efficient manner that provides for information giving, information sharing and consultation across the provinces and territories.
The meeting included a review of the current work plan, a discussion of what success would look like on Day 2 of the Symposium, strategic planning for efficient use of limited funding, criteria for provincial/territorial participant attendance at the Symposium, and strategies to engage other stakeholders who would not be in attendance at the 2009 event.
A large portion of the meeting was devoted to determining the best method to synthesize and present the large amount of data that must be absorbed by Symposium participants for them to be fully involved in a discussion of their jurisdiction’s perspectives in relation to the national mobility for the profession. The Project Working Group has chosen to develop short (3-page) briefs on the following key areas:
Titles
Ethics
Standards of Practice
Disciplinary Procedures
Registration and Regulatory
Definitions
Scopes of Practice
The thirteen members of the project working group were selected on the following basis:
Knowledgeable in matters related to counselling-related professions in their particular province or territory;
